Find the Chicken Lady at the Paris Bastille Market

Paris food is an essential part of the Parisian experience, and the Paris markets are a great place to sample the local cuisine. Ever since pastry chef / expat / author David Lebovitz posted his “10 Insanely Delicious Things You Shouldn’t Miss in Paris” on his blog, readers have been searching out the “Chicken Lady” at the Richard Lenoir Market. If you want to find her for yourself, here’s how to quickly  find the chicken lady at the Bastille market.

Chicken Lady Poulet Crapaudine, Bastille Market in ParisTake Metro line 5 to the Breguet-Sabin stop. Take the Saint Sabin exit, which will put you at the very north end of the market. Make a quick right down the first row of food stalls. The chicken lady is the third stall on the left, past the “Vollailes du Gotinais” meat stand (which sells cooked chicken as well) and the “La Boule d’Anges des Marches” bread stand (Pain a l’Ancienne).

The chicken lady herself may or may not be there, but enough people come looking for her that the guys working the stand know what you’re talking about.  (They speak English, btw.) You can choose between a small Poulet Crapaudine for 8.60 euros, a medium for 10.60 €, and a large for 14 €. They can cut up the chicken for you if you’d like. It also comes with roasted potatoes and chicken gravy. Get to the Richard Lenoir market early, because the chicken pickings get slim after 1 p.m.
